Southampton University Jazz and Orchestra Concert

Sunday, 27th March 2022, 15.00 - 17.00


The Southampton University Jazz and Orchestra bands have included Crail Community Hall as a venue to perform on their 2022 tour of Scotland. The two bands will perform a sets of 45 minutes each providing a mixture of Orchestral and Jazz music. The hall will be resounding with tunes played by 30 musicians on the extended stage. It will be a feast for the ears and the soul.


The repertoire for the Concert Band will include:

Selections from Chicago, Nessum Dorma and Selections from The Greatest Showman.

The repertoire for the Jazz Band will include:

Asteroid (Pearl and Dean Theme), Birdland, Flight of the Foo Birds and Cold Duck Time


SUCB is an entirely non-auditioned wind band, welcoming musicians of all standards and abilities. Typically they have 60 members in the band each year. They play a wide variety of music ranging from wind band standards, music from film and stage, marches, to classical pieces and seasonal favourites! Each year the band selects two band members to take on the role of assistant conductor, this year Sabine Middleton and Harry Linegar. Mentored by professional conductor and Concert Band alumnus Kevin Withell they will be responsible for conducting Concert Band on tour.


SUJB: Jazz band is a welcoming non-auditioned big band that gets together each week to play a variety of Jazz, Funk, Swing and Blues music from delicate 30s swing to groovin’ 70’s fusion. Having only been founded 5 years ago, SUJB has quickly grown into an incredibly popular group with over 40 members and play termly concerts that regularly sell out. This year the band is led by Jordan Parker, originally assistant conductor of Concert Band in 2018 and assistant musical director of Jazz Band is 2019, Jordan has returned to jazz band as full time-conductor and Musical Director and is proud to be leading a talented cohort of musicians through a wide Jazz repertoire. Each year the band selects two band members to take on the role of assistant musical director, this year Joel Blakely and Peter Forbes. Mentored by Jordan they will be helping lead the band on tour.
